The MUSD pheasant project was started in 2009 by a group of students from the district that wanted a chance to raise an animal that is different from the normal FFA projects. The students researched possible projects and found there is a need to pheasants in this area to be used as game birds for local sportsman’s clubs. The built a brooding room along with a flight pen at the school farm. In April of each year, the group will purchase 150 pheasant rooster chicks and raise them until mid-October when they are sold to a variety of groups. It is a very educational opportunity for these students each year to get to be involved in such a different aspect of agriculture.
